Description
Malta and Gozo (The Maltese Islands) are an ideal holiday destination all year round – in fact, a number of visitors decide to make Malta or Gozo their permanent “holiday” home. The attractions are many – generally excellent weather, with mild winters and lots of sunshine; the Mediterranean Sea nowhere more than a 20 minute drive away; a number of beaches; a range of modern hotels, guesthouses, self-catering apartments and villas of a high standard and very reasonable rates; history by the bucketload, from the age of the temple builders, through to a very active part in World War 2; pretty villages, and historic cities (Valletta, Mdina) with beautiful architecture, cosmopolitan seaside towns like Sliema and St Julians; lots of restaurants, pubs and busy discotheques, hence a varied nightlife; a friendly and helpful people, many of whom are multilingual (English, Italian, and some French/German); and all of this in an island (Malta) just seventeen miles by nine. The Maltese summer means the beach, watersports, al-fresco dining and barbeques, late nights and even later mornings; Winter (if it can be called such) is for sightseeing, countryside walks, still a lot of sunshine, and still plenty of entertainment options. All year round people visit for diving holidays and other no-season sports and activities.
