Cowes Week Set To Sail

July 31, 2009

Cowes Week, Britain’s longest running and most glamourous sailing regatta, gets underway Saturday August first.

The event will gather a thousand sailboats, 8,500 competitors and more than 100,000 spectators for the eight-day regatta, which combines the thrilling iShares Cup and the Artemis Challenge.

Canadian rock star Bryan Adams was named as one of the ‘celebrity sailors’ and will be teaming up with a professional crew for the Artemis Challenge.

The 40 or so races per day take place in The Solent waters off Cowes while spectators can enjoy the view from Cowes seafront, especially from The Green, convenient for its  panoramic viewing platform, as well as the Royal Yacht Squadron, from where the races start and finish.

During the week, The Parade will be turned into a tented village. Great family fun is provided, with music, street entertainers and the best of Island produce; all the making of a fabulous festival atmosphere.

People can even join in the sailing for just £10. LaserPerformance and Pelican Racing have teamed up in order to offer visitors an opportunity to come racing after the rest of the fleet has finished for the day.

Ondeck, the official charter partner of Cowes Week, is and will have high-speed rigid inflatable powerboats to bring visitors right up close to the action.
