Kiss Front Man Causes Commotion in Canada

July 31, 2009

In a recent trip to Ottawa, Canada’s capital, Kiss bass player Gene Simmons toured parliament hill with his wife Shannon Tweed, a former model, actress and a ex-resident of the city.

The quaint and beautiful city is used to famous politicians and diplomats but rarely witnesses Hollywood style frenzy. The two arrived casually by foot, greeted the crowd of onlookers, signed autographs and proceeded to tour the halls of the magnificent Neo-Gothic structure. Simmons shocked a few while commenting on the music of Kiss: “It’s really OK, not everybody loved Jesus either,” he quipped. The couple even visited Tweed’s former apartment, stunning the present tenant in the process.

Tweed had not visited her former home in decades. The former model took time off from her busy schedule in order to reminisce with old friends. She even met the mayor and attended special parties held in her honor.

A native of Newfoundland, Tweed moved to Ottawa in the 70’s. She was crowned Miss Ottawa in 1977 and came fourth in the Miss Canada pageant of the same year. Tweed then left her job as a waitress in order to pursue a modelling career; a decision that proved to be quite successful. She posed for Playboy magazine and was Playmate of the year in 1982. She also had a fruitful TV career with appearances in successful productions such as Falcon Quest, 1st in Ten and Fraisier.

Jeans Simmons and his band Kiss, famous for their anthem rock style and lavish costumes, were headlining the Ottawa Bluesfest; a hugely successful affair which has evolved over the years into a full spectrum two week musical extravaganza.
