Laura Ashley

Laura Ashley is a name instantly associated with fashion and home furnishings. However the Company grew from very humble beginnings. In 1953 Bernard and Laura Ashley began printing fabric on their kitchen table. Laura was inspired to make patchwork quilts but was frustrated by the poor choice of fabrics.

After many trips to the library to learn more about the art of printing she invested ten pounds on a screen, some linen and dyes and started producing patchwork squares. It was on a holiday in 1952 that they spotted the idea of headscarves and the gamble paid off. Soon they were supplying John Lewis stores and they never stopped growing. For more information visit
