Nasri confirms City move

August 25, 2011

Samir Nasri today completed his move to Manchester City from Arsenal for a reported £25m, saying at a press conference to announce the deal that he was delighted at the prospect of joining a club that has “more passionate” fans.

The Frenchman, aged 24, said that Arsenal have great followers but they have not been that passionate ever since the move from Highbury to their current Emirates Stadium.

The City fans are really passionate though, he explained, and when we played against them, their crowd was amazing. Later on, Nasri used Twitter to thank Arsenal and wished his former employers all the best.

The international mindfielder has penned a deal to play at Eastlands for four years. He becomes the fourth major signing of the summer, for a club that has expressed its frustration at having to wait so long for the transfer to finally go through.

It’s a huge relief because unfortunately there were long, drawn out negotiations between these two clubs, Nasri explained, but I’m finally a City player now and that’s all I’ve ever wanted from the start. It’s a huge day for me, he added.

On the prospect of linking up with the likes of striker Sergio Aguero and winger David Silva, Nasri told how any player always wants to be in the same team as the big stars.

Clearing up speculation on the matter, Nasri added that he asked Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger to pick him for last Saturday’s loss against Liverpool because he hadn’t played in so long and wanted to remain competitive.

By joining City, Nasri will be reunited with France teammamte Gael Clichy.
